Best Watch Straps

Changing up the way you look in your custom-fit charcoal gray, two-button, notch lapel suit is as easy as swapping out your black cap toes for brown brogues, changing your belt color to match your shoes and then changing your shirt color and tie. Voila! Your look is transformed. So, why can’t you do that with your watch strap? It’s easier than you think, and you won’t need a ton of specialized …

Best Pocket Watches

Pocket watches can’t exactly be considered de rigueur, especially in an age where some men are even eschewing the standard wristwatch for the smartwatch, or just ditching the idea of wearing a watch altogether. It takes a man of confidence and individual style to carry a pocket watch convincingly. You may even wonder whether or not pocket watches are even available anymore. The answer is a reso…

Affordable Slim Watches

Though the infamous billionaire playboy philanthropist Tony Stark wears a Jaeger-LeCoultre that probably costs more than your car, your monthly take-home pay doesn't have to look like China's GDP to get a great watch with a thin profile.

While slim watches are becoming more and more popular of late, they've always been classic. In fact, thinner timepieces have been on the front end of fashion si…

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak

A pricey choice

Hi Watch Snob,

I love the Royal Oak, but I find the price of  the15202 model to be unreasonably high.

What alternatives would be best? The 15400 is too big and lacks elegance. The 15300 is also quite thick. The 14790 seems fine, but I have not see one in the flesh. The 25572 and the 25594 seem very interesting and underappreciated, but I don't know how thin they are.

Please share yo…

Leather jackets have long been the go-to topper from everyone from cowboys to Harley enthusiasts to the suave-est actors to grace the silver screens. A good leather jacket can be one of the most versatile items in your closet: a leather jacket looks just as at home tossed over a dress shirt on the way to the office as it does over your favorite band shirt and pair of jeans on the weekend. Top 10: Legacy Watches

Your male progeny will likely be less than thrilled to inherit your overly hairy shoulders and undersized pinky toenail, so it behooves you to offer up something a bit more appealing when it comes to your legacy — perhaps something over which you have a bit more control. That’s where a solid heirloom wristwatch will do more than just make up for the less-than-savory stuff. No, a Casio G-Shock j…

Best Black Watches For Men

The military first used a blacked-out finish on wristwatches commissioned for commandos and other special forces for whom stealth was key to survival in the field. The intent was to make them anti-reflective — thereby not giving away the officer’s location due to any stray flashes of light — as well as more resistant to corrosion. Of course, as with many items originally intended for military…

Limitations Of Watch Design

Tourbillons

Dear Watch Snob,

I really want a tourbillon. There are several watches I can afford as they are under $1,000 – such as the Akribos XXIV and the Stuhrling – and of course they contain Chinese PTS tourbillons. These are throw-away watches, but at least I'd have the pleasure of wearing a tourbillon for a few years.

Last night I found the TAG Heuer Carrera Tourbillon Chronograph. As you kn…
